Writing has so many great benefits. What started for me as a hobby has slowly grown into being a daily occurrence, from writing blogs to short stories, flash fiction to poetry. I’ve tried many methods of supporting my own wellbeing but I always come back to writing as a solace. It can be done anywhere, any time.
A few years ago I designed a writing for wellbeing course which had a blend of creative writing mixed with understanding the benefits of writing for your wellbeing. About the same time I was personally using mindfulness and using it in my business. A chance conversation led me to develop the course further and Writing for Wellbeing in its current format was born.
What happens in the course and who is it suitable for?
It is suitable for anybody who wants to explore writing at a basic level. We try different styles of writing and I give tips, tricks, and advice to help you develop the skills, but this isn’t a course with the presumption that you will write a book by the end of it. If you decide to, all well and good, and if you are wanting tutor support to complete a qualification, this isn’t the course for you.
We start of slowly, exploring the very basics of writing and work our way through a range of simple exercises around character development and location creation. This is all mixed in with gentle but fun wellbeing exercises and advice. By the end of the course you will have a small but useful arsenal so that you can take care of your wellbeing, as well as expand your writing further if you so wish.
The Writing for Wellbeing course was fantastic. Roy is a great teacher who is able to provide a safe environment in which you can grow as a writer. I have learned a lot from Roy from how to form characters for my story to how I can make my story vivid and enjoyable to read. Roy is also very supportive and encouraging and always willing to help out. Every week the 2 hours we spend with each other was like a present to myself. I highly recommend the Writing for Wellbeing course!Jolanda, online course participant
