Broadcasting

Face for radio

I’ve often been told I’ve got a face for radio but my broadcasting experience was about to take on a whole new dimension with the addition of a visual element.

I might very well enjoy acting, and have limited experience of being in front of the camera from my days at college, but I tend to be one of those people who really does enjoy just working away without a public acknowledgement.

Radio this week was a new and interesting experience for me though. Part way through the broadcast, my co-host sprung up with her mobile phone and proclaimed that we were going to do a Facebook LIVE session.

If you’ve never done one of these, essentially you film something that you are doing and people can watch it online as it happens. The only reason I can see it being useful is to demonstrate a skill or similar, but I’m sure there are many other reasons and benefits for it.

So LIVE we went, behind the mic and on Facebook. Interesting experience. Multi-tasking is always fun but trying to talk to people in one medium whilst explaining to others in another what you are doing is not the easiest.

Ah well, I’m sure I’ll be OK next time. It was quite therapeutic and enjoyable, even if I didn’t really have a clue what was going on most of the time we were on air.
